The president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad, has received a five-year ban from the governing body of world football, FIFA. The ban declared on Monday was passed against Ahmad on charges of graft and misuse of office as President of the CAF. In March 2017, Ahmad was elected president of the CAF and stood for re-election. Ahmad was banned for “governance issues,” according to the FIFA statement, and was also accused of violating “his duty of allegiance, offering gifts and other benefits, mismanaging funds, and abusing his role as CAF president.” For his actions relating to “organizing and financing an Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca” and his role in CAF’s relations with a sports equipment corporation, Ahmad, who is from Madagascar, has also been fined 200,000 Swiss francs ($220,000) by FIFA.
A former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, has been accused of robbing half of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from a member of parliament in the United Kingdom. The suspended acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, could be sued by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) for failure to report such accounts on his Asset Declaration Form. The CCB requested the embattled Ibrahim Magu to be investigated for failure to report his properties properly. Magu, however, declined to testify before the CCB, stating to the bureau that he was unable to obtain the requested documentation from his office.
