After knocking out Jorge Masvidal to retain his Welterweight title at UFC 261 on Saturday, April 24, 2021, Nigerian mixed martial artist Kamaru Usman paid tribute to his father, Muhammed Usman.

Muhammed was convicted in 2009 after his ambulance company filed several criminal accusations. He was found guilty on 14 criminal claims and sentenced to 180 months in jail and $1.3 million in restitution 11 months after his conviction, in May 2010.

Muhammed Usman, who has been in prison since 2010, was able to watch his son fight live for the first time at the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida.

He was released from a Texas jail in February 2020, after serving 10 of the 15 years he was sentenced to.
