President Muhammadu Buhari acknowledged the immediate resignation of the Chiefs of Service and has assigned new officers as substitutes.
This was made known on Tuesday by Femi Adesina, Special Advisor to the President on Media and Publicity, who noted that the Chiefs of Service had also withdrawn from service.
Those involve are The Chief of the Security Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of the Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of the Naval Staff, Deputy Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar.
His Excellency Buhari thanked the outgoing Chiefs of Service for what he called their “overwhelming achievements in our efforts to bring lasting peace to our beloved country,” and wished them well in their ongoing endeavours.
He congratulated the new Service Chiefs, Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff
And he also urged them to be humble and serious in the discharge of their responsibilities.
I have accepted the immediate resignation of the Service Chiefs, and their retirement from service. I thank them all for their overwhelming achievements in our efforts at bringing enduring peace to Nigeria, and wish them well in their future endeavours.
