Dr. Osagie Ehanire, Nigeria’s Minister of Health, reports that the nation needs N1.89 trillion to effectively fight malaria.

The minister stated at a news conference in Abuja on Friday, April 23, that the country will need more than N350 billion to eradicate the disease in 2021, the new strategic plan would cost N1.89 trillion to implement; approximately N352 billion is required for the year 2021 program implementation,” he told reporters ahead of World Malaria Day on Sunday.

He admitted that the federal government lacks the resources needed to control the disease this year. Ehanire attributed this, as in other nations, to the current economic conditions brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.
